"A little learning is a
dangerous thing"

"President Ahmadinejad of Iran has been (falsely) quoted as saying: "Israel must be wiped off the map".

So what did Ahmadinejad actually say? To quote his exact words in farsi: "Imam ghoft een rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad." The full quote translated directly to English: "The Imam said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time"...

Hasn't Bush himself called for "regime change" in other countries, including Iran? What's the difference?

"Israel has drawn up secret plans to destroy Iran's uranium enrichment facilities with tactical nuclear weapons. Two Israeli air force squadrons are training to blow up an Iranian facility using low-yield nuclear "bunker-busters", according to several Israeli military sources. "

"This is a map of a redrawn and restructured Middle East identified as the 'New Middle East'. It was published in the U.S. Armed Forces Journal in June 2006... A wider war in the Middle East could result in redrawn borders that are strategically advantageous to Anglo-American interests and Israel."

"An Establishment consensus is rapidly emerging over the ever-more obvious lunacy of President George W. Bush, and the strategic implications of allowing a man with long-term and severe psychiatric disorders to remain in the Presidency during a period of systemic financial disintegration, which is driving some leading synarchist bankers to push for World War III --- using mad George as their patsy."

"A former soldier discharged because of a "personality disorder" was accused in federal court yesterday of executing an Iraqi family so he and other troops could rape and murder a young woman they had been eyeing at a traffic checkpoint."

When savagery becomes policy, this is the predictable result.

"The United States, in the wake of [an attack on Iran], would become an even more likely target of terrorism while reinforcing global suspicions that U.S. support for Israel is in itself a major cause of the rise of Islamic terrorism...

It is therefore high time for the administration to sober up and think strategically, with a historic perspective and the U.S. national interest primarily in mind. It's time to cool the rhetoric. The United States should not be guided by emotions or a sense of a religiously inspired mission...

The mullahs were on the skids several years ago but were given a new burst of life by the intensifying confrontation with the United States."

"Iran is to launch a massive joint naval wargame titled "Holy Prophet", beginning on March 31 with shooting of a Shahab II Missile into the air with the message of "Peace and Friendship" for the regional countries... Over seventeen thousand of Iran's armed forces and Basij mobilization forces, would take part in the naval wargame in which 500 large and small naval vessels of various types would participate."

"The launching of an outright war using nuclear warheads against Iran is now in the final planning stages. Coalition partners, which include the US, Israel and Turkey are in "an advanced stage of readiness".

We can only hope that the author is wrong...

"[President] Ahmadinejad's speech to thousands of students at a "World Without Zionism" conference set a hard-line foreign policy course... "Anybody who recognizes Israel will burn in the fire of the Islamic nation's fury," state-run television quoted him as saying. "There is no doubt that the new wave [of attacks] in Palestine will soon wipe off this disgraceful blot from the face of the Islamic world."

Great timing, isn't it? How about a world without Zionism OR Islam?

"Ayatollah Muhammad Taki Misbah Yazari, a senior figure in Iran's leadership and spiritual advisor of President Muhammad Ahmadinejad, has issued a call in an Iranian newspaper for the public to join the swelling ranks of Iran's homegrown suicide bombers... Commander Khamani has announced that registration for the suicide bomber force is open all over the country, and encourages Iranians to join in order to safeguard Islam and fight against its enemies."
